The Samyang 20mm f/1.8 ED AS UMC is a wide-angle lens produced by the Korean company since 2016 and is compatible with APSC and FF formats. This wide-angle lens is also totally manual, automatic focus is not present and it is not equipped with image stabilization. The shooting angle is not very extreme, it settles at 94.5 degrees, while the minimum focusing distance is 20 centimetres, useful for getting closer to the subject. The lens hood is sold separately; weight and size are in line with most lenses in the same category. The materials with which it is built are of notable quality, although in some points it is slightly plasticky, it has good resistance and durability. The images obtained are quite sharp, the colors are very close to reality and any aberrations are totally manageable in PP. Distortions are practically absent or minimal, it is possible to obtain a notable blurry effect with good three-dimensionality. The Samyang 20mm f/1.8 ED AS UMC is a versatile lens, suitable for multiple uses. Very easy to use, it is suitable for amateur and professional photographers, without being difficult. Landscaping is, together with architecture, the best way to fully exploit all its potential. The cost when new is already a good investment in itself, but if you want to save money, there is a good chance of being able to find it used.
